Why an inclusive healthcare centre?
LGBTQIA+ people may face specific challenges when accessing healthcare, particularly due to discrimination, healthcare professionals’ lack of knowledge or fear of discussing their identity or personal experiences. MACS aims to promote access to respectful, safe and non-discriminatory healthcare, taking into account physical, mental and sexual health, as well as the various forms of inequality.
A collective project at Les Grands Carmes
MACS is supported by Ex Aequo, Genres Pluriels and Tels Quels, three organisations committed to providing psychosocial and medical support, referring people to LGBTQIA+-friendly healthcare professionals, and training healthcare providers. MACS is part of the development of an Integrated Social and Health Centre (CSSI) at Les Grands Carmes, which aims to bring social and healthcare services closer together in order to provide comprehensive, accessible and continuous support that responds to the needs of the local population.

Meet our medical team

General practitioner
Dr. Gaëlle RODTS
Graduated from ULB, I worked as a general practitioner for four years in a medical center in northwest Brussels. I also work in family planning, where I am comfortable with gynecological smear tests, contraception, and screening. I received training from Genres Pluriels in hormonal care for transgender patients, and gained experience in addiction care through a six-month placement at Enaden and La MASS.

General practitioner
Dr. Olivier DUPRAY
General practitioner, committed to promoting sexual health as a major global health issue and advocating for its multidisciplinary management.
I have experience in family planning, sports medicine, and medicine in intercultural settings.

General practitioner
Dr. Estrella Lucas Barreda

Psychologist
Vincent Goetry
As a clinical psychologist, peer support worker and PhD in Psychological Sciences, I have trained in Gestalt therapy, systemic approaches and harm reduction. As an LGBTQIA+ activist, I have also received training in transgender and intersex issues. I provide support for a range of concerns, including chemsex, addictions, minority stress, LGBTQIA+-phobic violence, anxiety and depression. My practice is grounded in a non-judgmental, egalitarian and attentive approach that places the person, their lived experience and their relationships at the centre.

Nurse
Vincent Mantegna
As a nurse in Brussels, my experience working in a supervised drug consumption room and subsequently at MASS in Brussels has enabled me to develop expertise in addiction care and in supporting people with a wide range of healthcare needs. My experience in Canada has also enriched my nursing practice, which now focuses on community health, harm reduction and empowering people to take an active role in their own health.
I joined MACS with the desire to contribute to an inclusive, caring healthcare environment that respects and responds to each person’s individual journey.

Ex Æquo is an association that promotes health for men who have sex with other men. It aims for a decrease in new transmissions of HIV/AIDS and STD's. Ex Æquo provides STD-tests and makes prevention for STD's by informing and training health professionals, by distrubuting supplies (condoms, lube) and by providing supplies for harm reduction related to drugs. Ex Æquo also offers psychotherapy counselling. There are also speaking groups about for example Chemsex (sexual activity under the influence of drugs). The association also organises multiple activities called "entre potes" (yoga classes, board games and more). Last but not least, Ex Æquo also created the TTBM network (très très bons médecins = very very good doctors) which is a network of gay-friendly and HIV-friendly health professionals.
